Being prepared for all kinds of weather

In the month of February, we had a closed play date for Black history month with James Brown and his band at Princeton University. On the day of the event, the skies opened, and there we were stuck in the middle of a blizzard. Our production manager and I got to the venue at 7 AM with the sound and lights that we had secured for the school. First and foremost, we were most concerned that all people involved got to the event safely. This included the band, the technical staff, our crew and ticket holders. Many roads were closed and impassable. Sidewalks and pathways were slick. Time was of the utmost importance since most students were on campus and doors would be opening at the predesignated time. Whether the show would go on or not was never a consideration. The show must go on!

How did we pull it off

ConvergEvents believes in controlling the controllable elements of your show. Over the course of many months, utilizing our proprietary extensive step-by-step internal show advancing and control system (used for all our events), many steps were in place well before the play date. Personal attention was given to hundreds of details – we take nothing for granted. The system is worth its weight in gold in times like this.

We were able to facilitate Mr. Brown and his large band’s late arrival at the venue so the show went off without a hitch. At the end of the night, and uncharacteristically, Mr. Brown approached us to say he had a good time and then congratulated us on our expertise and ability to pull off a sold out show in such tough circumstances. It was a nice pat on the back from a veteran artist who knows a bit about what it takes to produce successful live events.

As for my production manager and I, well, we got to know Princeton better than we expected – as we were snowed in for another 24 hours!

Although we can’t control the weather, and we hope these will never be your circumstances, you can rest assured we will be prepared!
