1) You should never have more than one bid out at the same time if your budget will not cover the chance that both of them will be accepted because Murphy’s law applies to bidding.
2) Budget some extra funding cushion for bid and rider/production negotiations. Make sure the artist’s production is appropriate for your venue.
3) Unless you have an unlimited budget, it’s always best to book your headliner first-because that is where most of your money goes. Also, you can then approach other artists with a clear understanding of who is headlining your event.
4) If your bid is rejected in the fall for your spring date, try booking the artist for next fall if you are sure you still want them. They might not be as ‘hot’, then again they could be hotter.
5) Working with the same management agency will cut down on argy-bargy between artists, and can keep the lines of communication clearer. ConvergEvents represents You, not the Artists, and will alert you if the artists you want or their management are flagged as problematic.
6) Always make sure your bid has an expiration date on it. Let us tell you about soft and hard expiration dates.
7) Be prepared to wait and be patient to get a confirmation that your bid has been accepted.
